When it comes to FMLA compliance, any HR or benefits professional will say it is easier said than done. It just isn’t as straight forward as it was intended to be. There are so many potential obstacles that the Department of Labor recently published a new reference guide intended to help clarify many of the FMLA issues employers are required to deal with on a daily basis. Whether establishing reduced work schedules, obtaining initial physician certifications and getting second opinions, recordkeeping requirements, or deciding whether to use the calendar year method or rolling twelve-month method for calculating FMLA leave, and all the steps between, there are just so many issues to consider.
