A nonprofit’s board is a critical factor in ensuring the organization’s long term success. Good governance involves more than just defining the organization’s mission, raising funds and managing the chief executive. And great boards don’t just rubber stamp the board chair or chief executive’s recommendations. Instead, they challenge the status quo, push for better processes, ask important questions, monitor results and drive the organization’s performance to higher levels. The best boards are highly capable at juggling the many challenges associated with today’s operational environment – including dwindling resources, staffing shortages, increasing client needs, rising costs, and demands for greater accountability and transparency. While they are capably executing these tasks, they also maintain an intentional focus on a shared vision for the future and increasing their organization’s effectiveness and efficiency.
Please join Lynn Ivey, nonprofit consultant, to learn concepts and strategies for leveraging your board’s skills and expertise to lead your organization to achieving better impacts and outcomes. Exceptional boards that inspire their organizations to excellence don’t just happen. They are skillfully cultivated, nurtured and empowered. Highly effective board members who challenge their nonprofits to achieve better results will ensure positive changes in their communities in ways that are both powerful and lasting.
