Nonprofits in general have limited resources. This is particularly true when it comes to budgets for hiring new employees and the time and energy required for managing their volunteers. In this type of environment, nonprofit managers could benefit from a series of tools that help them to measure and benchmark the organization’s human resource practices and strategies. The goal is to ensure that these practices are effective and aligned with an organizational strategy aimed at achieving the mission of the nonprofit. This is where human resource (HR) metrics come in. HR metrics are a series of HR management benchmarks which most often can be developed from the employee information you are already collecting. If done correctly metrics can become a valuable tool in human resource management and strategic organizational planning. But to be effective the metrics you use need to be aligned with your nonprofit’s goals and the results clear and easily understood. You need to understand the different types of nonprofit metrics that are available, specific metrics that are appropriate for your nonprofit, how to benchmark and analyze them, and ultimately how to communicate your results and recommendations to management in order to add strategic value to your organization. Please join Alicia Schoshinski as she takes you through the steps of choosing metrics that are appropriate for a nonprofit, and how to compile these and communicate the results.
