Starting a credible nonprofit is both an exciting and an exhausting experience. Armed with a great idea to address a problem or need, and a group of committed supporters focused on bringing that idea into existence, the first steps are taken to bring the organization to life. The founder and first board create a great name, carefully articulate the mission and vision, file the necessary documents, and create the first budgets and business plans. Once the dust settles from the “construction” phase and the essentials are taken care of, many boards think their work is done. Nothing could be further from the truth!
After a nonprofit is formed and the policies, procedures and by-laws put into place, the focus turns to finding funding, engaging the community, and creating the right mix of activities, services and opportunities to fulfill the mission. The board and founder must pivot from designing processes and completing paperwork, to building a governance structure and focusing on sustainability, accountability and transparency. But successfully navigating this essential transformation takes intentional planning and careful execution.
Please join Lynn Ivey for a webinar that will explain the necessity for making the leap to a governing board, discuss key aspects to include in planning, explore essentials to build a sustainable organization, and identify strategies to ensure your board, founder, leaders and staff have the best structure to achieve your goals.
